About Bird on the Hand
Over 20 Years of Falconry Experience in the Heart of Leicestershire
Bird on the Hand was founded more than two decades ago with one simple goal - to share the unforgettable thrill of flying birds of prey up close.
From our countryside base near Market Harborough, we’ve grown into one of the UK’s best-loved falconry experience providers, welcoming thousands of guests each year.
Our philosophy has never changed: to offer authentic, personal encounters with magnificent birds - always with their welfare and dignity at the heart of everything we do.

Our Story
What began, with Andrew, as a small local falconry experience provider quickly became a regional success.
Guests loved the hands-on nature of our experiences and the chance to learn directly from working falconers, not showmen. Word spread, and soon our sessions were drawing visitors from across the Midlands and beyond.
To meet that growing demand, we later established our sister site at Alders Farm in Buckinghamshire - extending the same Bird on the Hand ethos further south. Together, both venues share the same spirit: authentic falconry, expert care, and memorable, nature-connected experiences.
Meet the Team
Our small, dedicated team of falconers brings together decades of experience caring for and flying birds of prey.
Every session is led by someone who knows each bird personally - their temperament, their quirks, and the best way to introduce them to visitors.
Guests often say the passion of our falconers is what makes the experience truly special.
“You don’t just see the birds here - you understand them.”

Our Birds and Conservation Ethos
We’re home to around 25 birds, including owls, hawks, falcons, and eagles from across the world. Each is raised and trained using ethical falconry methods that prioritise trust and respect.
While our focus is on visitor experiences, education and conservation are always close to our hearts. We regularly visit schools and care homes, helping people of all ages connect with wildlife - many for the first time.
Our team also supports breeding and awareness projects for native species such as barn owls and kestrels, helping to protect them for the future. We have dedicated much of our ten acre site to rough grass and meadow giving ideal habitat for mice and voles, the primary prey of our local owls and kestrels.
Continuing the Journey
From our countryside setting at Barn Owl Hollow, Bird on the Hand continues to grow while staying true to its roots.
Whether you join us for a hands-on falconry session, an owl encounter, or a private event, we aim to give you something lasting - not just photographs, but a genuine sense of connection to these remarkable creatures.
